Irit Batsry est une artiste de renommée internationale
qui travaille principalement la vidéo et les installations, ainsi
que la photographie. Ses œuvres figurent dans des collections prestigieuses,
notamment celles du MoMA et du Whitney à New York. La Galerie
Nationale du Jeu de Paume à Paris lui a consacré une rétrospective
vidéo (1981-2006).
Elle est la lauréate du Prix Bucksbaum, grand prix de la Biennale
du Whitney Museum of American Art 2002, récompensant un artiste
"dont le travail fait preuve d'une originalité et d'un talent
remarquable." Elle a bénéficié d’une
bourse de la Fondation Guggenheim en 1992 et de la Fondation Daniel
Langlois pour l’Art, la Science et la Technologie en 1999.
Elle a reçu un nombre impressionnant de prix, notamment le Grand
Prix Vidéo de Création de la Société Civile
des Auteurs Multimédia en 1996 et 2001, ainsi que le premier
prix aux festivals vidéo de Locarno (en 1990 et 1995), de Vigo
(en 1994 et 2001), et d’Australie en 1989...
Elle a produit plusieurs œuvres pendant des résidences d’artistes,
notamment au Centre International de Création Vidéo en
France, à la Cité des Arts à Paris et à
l'Académie des Arts et Média de Cologne. Son travail,
produit avec le soutien de l’unité documentaire d’Arte
France, est diffusé par ARTE, PBS (Etats-Unis) et WDR (Allemagne).
Son travail a été présenté dans 35 pays
différents, dans des festivals internationaux notamment à
Rotterdam, New York, Rio, Berlin et Londres et dans des musées
tels que la National Gallery à Washington DC, le National Film
Theater (Londres), le Tel Aviv Museum, le Museu d'Arte Moderna (Rio),
le Ludwig Museum (Cologne) et le Centre d’art Reina Sofia (Madrid).
